It was an absolute privilege to have been asked to contribute to January’s edition of the Pro Landscaper magazine and their feature; The “Agenda”.
The summer season may be drawing to an end and the gardens are starting to look a little dreary but don’t be downhearted because we are here to help you!
Garden Design and Landscaping Project in Southampton
We were approached by Maureen to help her create her dream garden. Before walking you through this project that featured curved artificial grass, garden furniture such as stunning slate garden bench and statue, modern pergola design, raised beds and decking; why not read what Maureen had to say about her new garden design:
I cannot thank Rob and his lovely team enough, Rob you have created my dream garden. You and your team are professional and hard working. You should take great pride in the standard of your work and in your very creative skills. Thank you so very much for creating my dream garden.
As you’ve just read, it is fair to say our latest landscaping and garden creation totally hit the nail on the head! We had a brief for a low maintenance garden as our client is a carer for her husband and wanted an area to be proud of, without being burdensome to maintain. Most crucially it had to be an area of relaxation and peacefulness. When we initially meet and discuss ideas we always listen to you and what you want. The advantage we have is our years of experience, which enable us to draw on a very wide range of design ideas and concepts so we can create something unique and perfectly suited to you.
Here was the garden before we began any of our makeover:
As you can see we had a completely blank canvass to work from. This enabled us to plan a garden that fully met our clients brief and their budget.
The first step is to undertake the initial clearance work. This removes all existing grass and gives us the blank canvass we need to start our landscaping work from:
Once this work was complete we then began to layout and create the main features of this project. We were going to create a shaped artificial lawn, along with a decked are and a contemporary pergola. Due to the very un predictable summer weather we were really battling to be able to stay on schedule with this project. As good as we are, we really can’t control heavy downpours, which make it very difficult to progress any garden project at normal speeds! In total this project took just over a week to complete.
Once we got to this stage the contemporary pergola just needed the side slats attaching and then it was on to the artificial nam grass with stunning large plum slate chippings.
The Finished Garden Design
So after many hours of love and attention we were able to complete this garden design project in Bitterne, Southampton. To add the finishing touches we added a stunning contemporary slate garden bench and modern statue. The raised borders were also planted with low maintenance grasses, architectural shrubs and herbaceous perennials. We created extra screening with bamboo along the rear fence line and all these shrubs were grown in our own nursery unit so we can be sure of the quality of the plants and their suitability for the local soil conditions.
Beautiful Garden Design and Landscaping
We loved this garden landscaping design project for our customer in Gosport, Hampshire. TOur client needed a patio area to relax in but didn’t want the whole garden paved. They also needed a low maintenance artificial lawn area for their grandchildren to play. The best bit was everything else was up to us to create within their budget!
As a result we turned the old garden in to this:
The first part of this project was to level and remove the old top soil and vegetation ready for our new landscaping design.
We were able to gain side access to the garden so with the removal of a fence panel or two we set John to work on our mini digger to really set this project on the right track. Once the ground was ready for the next stage we bought in the hardcore sub base and as you can see below set about compacting this ready for the next stage of landscaping.
Once the base was ready we then proceeded to layout the new garden design and set in place our granite edging to help sculpt the new garden areas!
The Finished Garden Design
Once the edging was complete we were able to create the new natural riven sandstone paved area, compliment the already laid granite edging with the addition of a granite chipping section and also lay the excellent Namgrass artificial lawn. We also made good the fencing so you couldn’t even tell we had removed it in the first place.
And once again a quick reminder of what this garden looked like before we worked our magic!
The finished garden landscaping project was a wonderful low maintenance garden area that combined three distinct zones in to a single cohesive design. Namgrass Artificial Grass for a Low Maintenance Lawn
This garden landscaping project in Southampton was a good way for us to enter June…
As part of the complete works we installed a brand new Namgrass artificial lawn, laid brand new “Promenade” grey sandstone paving , added overlap fencing and a created a brand new sleeper seat/artificial grass seat to allow our customer to enjoy their new garden space!
The picture above shows how the correct selection of paving colour and design can help to create exactly the look and feel you want from your garden landscaping project!
In the background below you can see the new sleeper seat we created with the use of timber and more Namgrass articial lawn for the seat base itself.

Fresh S1 Grade Turf Used for this Hampshire Garden Lawn Job
As summer approaches now is a great time to lay a new lawn. This garden landscaping project involved removing an old concrete path and leveling the lawn.
Due to the layout of this garden it wasn’t possible to create a flat lawn in one, our customer didn’t want a sloping garden surface so we came up with an innovate solution that included the creation of 2 level tiers, separated by a new timer retaining wall with a natural turf step built in.
This project was a real team effort for us to complete. At the start of the project we had John in on our digger to remove the old path and level the earth ready for the two tiers of turfing. Paul was then able to create the sleeper work for the retaining wall and natural turf step creation. Finally we brought in Matt and Joel to finish the project with the new S1 Grade Turfing.
The finished lawn area really looks great and our customer was very happy. Beautiful Garden Design and Landscaping
It is only early in the year and we really shouldn’t have favourites, but this garden landscaping project is without doubt one of our favourite designs and projects so far this year.
One of the biggest challenges we faced in this project was access. There was no rear access to the garden so all materials had to be moved through the house of our customer. We really didn’t want this to be a design factor in what we planned to create though!
Our idea was to create a number of tiers in the garden, these levels would then be connected via paths and steps. The levels would allow our client to create and outdoor play and picnic area and make the most of their outdoor space.
We used Sahara Sandstone paving to create a very modern look – to take this a step further we also added a softwood timber edging for a very current and modern garden design.
Here are a couple of our work in progress images:
We think these really help show just how much we were able to improve on this garden’s design!
