Lawn Maintenance: Watering & Caring for Your New Grass
If you have a new lawn as part of a repair or garden landscaping job then it is important to understand how to look after it.
You can over water a new lawn, just as a sustained lack of water can also lead to the grass not taking or dying. We will advise you on the best way to care for your lawn, depending on the time of year. As part of any preparation work we will ensure the ground is ready to receive the turfing and that there is enough fertilisation to help it grow and take immediately.
A good general guide is to lightly water the lawn first thing in the morning and early evening during any prolonged dry spell and during the warmest summer months.
Your first few cuts should also be at a very high lawn mower setting. The idea is to take just the top 15 or 20% of the grass off. This will ensure it remains healthy and the roots will really establish. Ideally use a lawn mower that collects the cuttings as you initially want to ensure the grass remains healthy.
