Drake, a Bitterne, Southampton Garden Redesign & Landscaping Project

Garden Design and Landscaping Project in Southampton

We were approached by Maureen to help her create her dream garden. Before walking you through this project that featured curved artificial grass, garden furniture such as stunning slate garden bench and statue, modern pergola design, raised beds and decking; why not read what Maureen had to say about her new garden design:

I cannot thank Rob and his lovely team enough, Rob you have created my dream garden. You and your team are professional and hard working. You should take great pride in the standard of your work and in your very creative skills. Thank you so very much for creating my dream garden.

As you’ve just read, it is fair to say our latest landscaping and garden creation totally hit the nail on the head! We had a brief for a low maintenance garden as our client is a carer for her husband and wanted an area to be proud of, without being burdensome to maintain. Most crucially it had to be an area of relaxation and peacefulness. When we initially meet and discuss ideas we always listen to you and what you want. The advantage we have is our years of experience, which enable us to draw on a very wide range of design ideas and concepts so we can create something unique and perfectly suited to you.

Here was the garden before we began any of our makeover:

As you can see we had a completely blank canvass to work from. This enabled us to plan a garden that fully met our clients brief and their budget.

The first step is to undertake the initial clearance work. This removes all existing grass and gives us the blank canvass we need to start our landscaping work from:

Once this work was complete we then began to layout and create the main features of this project. We were going to create a shaped artificial lawn, along with a decked are and a contemporary pergola. Due to the very un predictable summer weather we were really battling to be able to stay on schedule with this project. As good as we are, we really can’t control heavy downpours, which make it very difficult to progress any garden project at normal speeds! In total this project took just over a week to complete.

Once we got to this stage the contemporary pergola just needed the side slats attaching and then it was on to the artificial nam grass with stunning large plum slate chippings.

The Finished Garden Design

So after many hours of love and attention we were able to complete this garden design project in Bitterne, Southampton. To add the finishing touches we added a stunning contemporary slate garden bench and modern statue. The raised borders were also planted with low maintenance grasses, architectural shrubs and herbaceous perennials. We created extra screening with bamboo along the rear fence line and all these shrubs were grown in our own nursery unit so we can be sure of the quality of the plants and their suitability for the local soil conditions.

Aureum Low Maintenance Garden Redesign – October 2016

Low Maintenance Garden Design with Artificial Lawn

Our latest landscaping project is finished. Aureum is a great low maintenance, contemporary garden featuring natural sandstone paving, raised sleeper bed and an artificial lawn. When we first visited the garden we decided the first job was a general tidy before creating a new garden fence.

The next step in this garden redesign project was to create some timber bound, raised flower beds.

Once this was completed we then began work on the paving and artificial lawn area.

Aureum Laying the Paving

Can you spot John giving us a cheeky little wave there… Once we have completed the paving we were able to lay the artificial lawn base and finally the fake grass itself. However when you are looking to complete garden landscaping, certain jobs can only be done in dry weather, and as you can see from Rob’s face below, rain did hamper us somewhat on this garden project!

Still once the weather was better we were able to put the finishing touches to this project including painting the fences in Cuprinol Garden Shades in Forest Mushroom colour. The finished design features raised sleeper beds, sandstone paving, artificial lawn and decorative stone borders.

Not to neglect the front of house, we also tidied this area up a bit with new raised planter, stone path and decorative stones.

Cherry Field Finished – October 2016 Garden Project

Garden re-design including path widening

After our earlier post of our work in progress “Cherry Field” we can now bring you some updated pictures and the finished Garden project. Due to the time of year the beds have been created ready for Spring planting, as such the true finished project is a few seasons away still, however even comparing the before with the now we are very happy with how this garden redesign project has progressed! It is a great example of a new garden design featuring a combination of natural stone and timber.

this project was a great example of combining heavy duty timber and beautiful natural sandstone and the above really shows the difference we have made to this garden, and the work wasn’t finished there on this particular wall as we installed something to help with enjoying the garden at nighttime as well!

You can see the finished path and patio area, which after spring planting will look stunning! You can also see that a great way to cover unattractive walls is to clad them! This gives you a great contemporary look for your garden.

Cherry Field's path and raised patio

The raised patio is also edged with round timbers. This is a great way to define the area without creating a barrier between the patio and the rest of the garden.

You can also see a close up view of the curved steps between the lower patio and the raised area.

Normally we only post with our finished garden projects. With our latest blog post we thought we’d give you an update on our latest project “Cherry Field”.

Due to limited access to this garden we can’t get a mini digger on to site which means some serious manual labour… The first stage of this garden redesign is to take up the existing brick paving

The next stage is to also extend the garden path by removing a retaining wall and extending out in to the garden.

The brick paving is up, the retaining wall is down and the path has been made wider.

That’s the worst bit finished and now we can start building the new garden! We will keep you updated on this project…
